Scar Treatment Overview
Many
kinds of scars can be reduced with lasers and other surgical techniques. The
array of
Types of treatments We use different approaches for certain types of scars. For surgical scars we may excise the scar and/or reduce its width with one of our lasers. For hypertrophic scars (or keloids) we may inject with corticosteroids and/or treat with IPL (intense-pulsed light). For some types of acne scars, we may first surgically remove certain prominent scars and then resurface one area or the whole face with the CO2 super-pulsed (NovaPulse) laser.
New, Better Treatments: Facial Acne Scars
ScarRelease™ surgical subcision---with just local anesthesia we can painlessly release some of the fibrous strands that tether facial scars inward, creating the indented or rolling scar pattern caused by facial acne. Downtime is surprisingly minimal and the fees reasonable. ScarRelease™ subcision can be sometimes combined with ablative laser resurfacing to achieve even greater smoothness. Soft tissue augmentation with “fillers” like Restylane™, Radiesse™ and Sculptra™ can even out certain scar-induced defects for a period of months to years. In-office surgery and Kenalog™ (“cortisone”) injections also plays a role in reducing some types of acne scars. Actual patient - Dermatology & Laser Center of San Antonio Before 8 weeks post-op
