FAQ'S about Restylane®

What is Restylane©?

Restylane© is a gel containing hyaluronic acid, a natural substance already present in your body.  Once in the skin, Restylane© works by adding volume.

The hylaluronic acid in Restylane© is stabilized for long duration and is not of animal or human origin.

How does Restylane© work?

During treatment, Restylane®  is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When enhancing lips or facial

contours, Restylane® adds volume and shape to the treated area.

How long does Restylane© last?

Patients treated with Restylane® report  smoothing effects lasting six months or longer.

Is Restylane© safe?

Yes, Restylane® has been used safely by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide.  Because Restylane® is non-animal based, allergy testing is not required.  The most commonly reported side effects were temporary redness and swelling at the injection site.  These effects typically resolve within two to three days.

How is Restylane© different from BOTOX™?

Restylane® is a natural cosmetic filler.  In contrast, BOTOX™ is a drug that blocks nerve transmission and relaxes the underlying muscles.  Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

What should I expect after my treatment with Restylane©?

Soon after injection, expect some swelling; especially in the lips.  This generally goes away in a day or two.  During the first 48 hours after your treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. If you have had a lip enhancement, avoid puckering your lips for the first two days after the treatment. Until the initial swelling and redness have resolved, do not expose the treated area to intense heat (e.g. in a solarium or by sunbathing) or extreme cold.
