Tired of your tattoo?
We can help. At the Dermatology & Laser Center of
San Antonio, we use the
Q-Switched
Nd: Yag Laser for tattoo removal. Your tattoo can be
removed with little or no scarring. Professional and
amateur tattoos have been treated with gratifying results
and minimal side effects.
Here's
how it works: the laser
breaks up the pigment colors of the tattoo with a
high-intensity light beam. Treatments vary from
patient to patient, depending on the color, age, size and
type of tattoo. Depending on the type of tattoo,
multiple treatments may be required.

FAQ – Tattoo Removal
Why a consultation
During your consultation, the
tattoo(s) will be evaluated, all
questions will be answered, and
the medical risks and benefits of the laser tattoo removal
procedure will be thoroughly explained to you. We will also
establish a
price per treatment
and will give you an approximate number of treatments
necessary, based on the evaluated tattoo(s) and your
individual health concerns.
What is involved in a consultation? This is the first step. A consultation is required before
any laser treatment, and usually takes 30 minutes. It
involves taking a health history, evaluating the tattoo,
explaining the procedure, reviewing risks and benefits,
options, answering questions, and establishing the price per
treatment. Patients under 18 years of age must have a
parent or guardian with them.
Is there a fee for the consultation? There is a fee of $75
for your first appointment.
How are tattoos removed? The Q-switched Nd:Yag laser is is FDA-approved for removing
tattoos. At times we use other devices (lasers) or can
surgically remove a tattoo
How much will it cost? Pricing depends on the size of the tattoo. The prices per
treatment start at $200 per treatment and go up from there,
based on the size of the tattoo. Multiple treatments over a
period of time are needed.
Is the process painful? The discomfort from this procedure can vary from only mildly
uncomfortable to painful. If we think pain will be a
serious factor, we use an anesthetic to numb up the skin
How many treatments will it take to remove my
tattoo?
Every tattoo is different, but almost all
require multiple treatments, which are usually spaced out
from 4 to 12 weeks, or even longer. The number of treatments
depends on the type, amount, density, colors and depth of
ink that’s used; other factors which influence success of
treatment include the tattoo’s location and age, and the
patient’s skin type and health conditions .
Will the tattoo completely disappear? The degree of improvement varies widely. Black inks
generally respond better; colored inks, such as greens, are
less predictable. Some tattoos clear almost completely with
several treatments; others improve slowly and incompletely
over time. During consultation you can be given a better
idea of how responsive to treatment your tattoo may be. At
times we are able to remove the bulk of a tattoo’s pigment,
and then surgically remove the rest.
