What is a Physician Assistant (PA)?.>>

   
 

At the Dermatology & Laser Center of San Antonio™ our doctors are all Board Certified Dermatologists. Our Dermatology Physician Assistants (PAs) pare experienced in both medical dermatology and dermatological surgery; and can also advise you about many cosmetic treatment solutions, including the use of  fillers like Restylane®, Radiesse, or Sculptra; Botox® for wrinkles and excessive sweating; and intense pulsed light (IPL) for skin brightening.

Dr. Steven A. DavisSteven A. Davis, M.D, Medical Director     A San Antonio native, Dr. Davis received a B.A. from Yale in 1969. He received his M.D. from the UT Southwestern Medical School in 1973 and completed a dermatology residency at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical School. He was certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 1977 and served on the academic faculty at UCSF until 1983, when he returned to San Antonio to go into private practice. 

 

     Dr. Davis is currently both a clinical professor in dermatology (medicine) and a clinical assistant professor in plastic surgery at the University of Texas Health and Science Center at San Antonio. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, and the American Society for Dermatologic surgery. A former president of the San Antonio Dermatologic Society, Dr. Davis also does a daily radio feature,  “Speaking of Health” , which has aired on the CBS Radio Network for 29 years and is one of the co-founders of Laser Forum, a preeminent online information source for medical laser users and related professionals around the world.

 

     In addition to practicing general dermatology, Dr. Davis is founder and director of the Dermatology and Laser Center of San Antonio™, which specializes in general and cosmetic dermatology, skin laser surgery, and clinical research.  Dr. Davis has been performing cutaneous laser surgery since 1992 and teaches laser surgery courses for both HGM, Inc., manufacturer of the HGM Krypton Vascular and Pigmented Lesion Laser and Renaissance erbium:yag lasers; Luxar Corporation, maker of the NovaPulse CO2 Laser for facial skin resurfacing; and ESC Medical Systems, maker of the PhotoDerm VL/PL/HR intense pulsed light system.

Arthur W. Richardson, M.D. is a graduate of Colorado State Universityand the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver. He served in the US Army for eight years and did his dermatology residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.  He has been board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology since 1961 and been in private practice in San Antonio since 1962, most of his career at the Diagnostic Clinic of San Antonio™.  Dr. Richardson joined the Dermatology and Laser Center of San Antonio in June 2000.  Dr. Richardson is also  very active in the community, serves on the board of Morningside Ministries, and plays drums for a popular San Antonio jazz group, The Band-aids.

Susan J. Mahler, M.D. is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Pennsylvania’s Lafayette College, and she graduated 1st in her class at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1989, where she also completed her dermatology.  She was board-certified in dermatology and has been in private practice since 1993, joining The Dermatology and Laser Center of San Antonio in 2003. Dr. Mahler is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.  She is also a member of the Texas Medical Association and the Bexar County Medical Society.  Dr. Mahler practices general adult and pediatric dermatology and dermatology surgery and has particular interest in seeing patients with conditions affecting the hair and nails.

Gloria J. Johnson, MPAS, PA-C, served in the US Air Force for 20 years and received a Bachelor of Science, Physician Associate, from the University of Oklahoma in 1985.  She is nationally board certified as a Physician Assistant. She completed an Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery PA Residency in 1993 and received a Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska in 2000 with a focus in dermatology.  She has a very diverse clinical background which includes experience in family practice, primary care/urgent care, otolaryngology, neurotology, and dermatology.   Gloria is a current member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and has served as chairman of the Continuing Medical Education Committee since 2003.

  Joey Dixon-Julian, MPAS, PA-C received a Bachelor of Science with a major in biology/pre-medicine and a minor in chemistry from Pittsburg State University , Pittsburg , Kansas in 1997.   She then earned a Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant studies from Wichita State University , Wichita , Kansas in 1999.   In 2004, she was awarded a MPAS with an emphasis in dermatology from the University of Nebraska . Prior to joining the dermatology practice in 2003, she worked for 3 years in a very active obstetrics/gynecology practice.   She is nationally board certified as a Physician Assistant.  She is very active in the community with various charitable organizations and with various professional groups and recently volunteered her dermatology skills on a medical mission to Central America .
