Port-Wine stains are a vascular birthmark; they can range in
color from flesh-colored to red, pink or purple.. The stains
appear at birth with flat, pink, red or purplish
discoloration. Most often they are found on the face,
neck, arms or legs and grow as the child grows. As the years
pass, the stains may become thick and develop small bumps or
ridges. Port-wine stains last a lifetime.
These can be a major aesthetic and sometimes functional
problem, especially when they are on the face and can be
emotionally devastating. In the past, people had to make
due with coverup makeup. Now these birthmarks can be
treated with lasers. Dr. Davis uses the
PhotoDerm® VL intense pulsed light and the Vasculight® yag
laser.
We treat both children and adults.
Duration of treatment will generally depend on the depth,
location and color, as well as the patient's skin type and
age, but generally patients should expect to have a course
of multiple treatments to gradually fade the port wine
stain.
