Scar Reduction by Lasers, PhotoDerm®
Pulsed Light, and Surgery

Many kinds of scars can be reduced with lasers and other surgical techniques. The array of available methods and devices increases every year. At the Dermatology Laser Center of San Antonio we tailor the treatment to the kind of scar (or scars), and may use a surgical approach, injections with corticosteroids, the CO2 laser, PhotoDerm pulsed light or a combination of methods.

Treatments for Different Types of Scars
Often we will use a combination of approaches for certain types of scars. For example, for acne scarring we may first surgically remove certain prominent scars and then resurface one area or the whole face with the CO2 super-pulsed (NovaPulse) laser.

For surgical scars we may excise the scar and/or reduce its width with one of our lasers. For hypertrophic scars (or keloids) we may inject with corticosteroids and/or treat with pulsed light (PhotoDerm®).

Scar Reduction Results
There are other treatment options for different kinds of scars. Most people treated realize substantial improvement in the look or feel of their
scar(s). But it must be remembered that the realistic goal is IMPROVEMENT, not perfection.
